Josie and the Pussycats - The Melody Memory Mix-Up
Josie and the Pussycats - The Melody Memory Mix-Up Traverse the globe with Josie and the Pussycats on this 95-minute, four-episode video. First it’s off to Hawaii in “The Melody Memory Mix-Up” where the gang must help hide an important force field formula from the Hawk. Melody’s memory bank becomes the unlikely vessel for the secret formula, and the group finds itself in a multitude of hair-raising experiences. In “The Great Pussycat Chase,” Josie and the Pussycats take possession of a mysterious black box in Paris. The group must elude the Shadow, then find an elusive gargoyle to unearth a list of the Shadow’s evil agents worldwide. Melody’s innocent quest for a pair of authentic purple clogs lands the group a dangerous assignment in “Never Mind a Mastermind.” The group’s mission: to prevent the Mastermind from stealing an important antigravity device from a geophysical laboratory in Holland. In “Strangemoon over Miami,” Josie and the Pussycats desperately try to stop Dr. Strangemoon’s plans to launch a series of satellites that will attract fiery comets to Earth.
Josie and the Pussycats is an early-1970s, animated Hanna-Barbera cartoon series based on the Archie comic book series. Each episode features lots of fast-paced, comedy-filled chase scenes; then-futuristic ideas like minicomputers, artificial force fields, and antigravity devices; and lots of 1970s slang. While the portrayal of Melody as a blond airhead and Alexandra as a conniving, controlling woman may be somewhat offensive to modern audiences, it should be viewed in context as 1970s comic exaggeration. Modern kids ages 5 to 11 and retrospective, adult fans will enjoy these four Josie and the Pussycats episodes. –Tami Horiuchi
